How IPL works

IPL uses short blasts of multi-colored, high-intensity light to penetrate just below the skin’s surface. During the IPL facial procedure, controlled waves of pulsed light energy are delivered deep within the skin tissue to damage the vessels or pigmented spots.

The resulting heat causes the blood to coagulate and the veins to collapse in on themselves, ultimately causing them to be reabsorbed by the body over time. Since the wavelengths only target the melanin in pigmented lesions or blood vessels, the surrounding skin remains intact, allowing for minimal discomfort and less downtime than most traditional methods. The IPL photofacial treatment also works to rejuvenate the skin by reducing discoloration, softening lines and targeting sun damage.

How Many Sessions Will I Need?

We generally recommend a series of 2 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. This will vary depending on the individual needs and skin type of each patient. While you may see slight improvements after your initial treatment, the best results will accumulate after at least 3 sessions, as each IPL photofacial procedure will result in a gradual lightening of the target area. In addition to being a safe and minimally invasive treatment, many patients have reported remarkable results.
